Grown with Intention from Day One
A plant’s long-term health and productivity begins at germination, where thoughtful care and attention happen long before it reaches your garden. From day one, Karen and her plant care team nurture non-GMO, organically grown seedlings under carefully controlled lighting, moisture, and soil conditions. This attentive process encourages deep root development, sturdy stems, and vibrant, healthy growth.
As the season approaches, each young plant is gradually introduced to outdoor elements through a meticulous hardening-off process, ensuring resilience and strength. By the time your plants are ready for transplant, they are well-established, vigorous, and prepared to thrive—giving you confidence in what you’re planting and setting the stage for a more abundant, successful harvest all season long.
From Greenhouse to Garden
1. Select your plants & seeds
Browse our online shop to choose from trusted garden staples or explore distinctive heirloom varieties you won’t find at big-box stores. Each offering is grown with intention and informed by years of hands-on experimentation in Chicago’s unique climate. Thoughtful guidance and growing recommendations are shared along the way, helping you select the right plants for your space and goals.
2. Meet your plant babies
Plant pickup happens in two seasonal visits at Homegrown Gardens—mid to late April for spring crops, and late May for summer plantings. You’ll receive a notification when weather conditions are right and your plants have reached the ideal maturity for transplanting, ensuring the best possible start in your garden.
Optional: If Homegrown Gardens has designed and built your garden space, elevate your season with a Premiere Planting Event. Your plants will be delivered and professionally transplanted into your raised beds with proper spacing, soil preparation, and organic fertilizers—so everything is set up for healthy growth and a thriving season ahead.
